Fat makes Salma Hayek Look Younger?!

Salma Hayek believes that eating fat makes her look better.  Who couldn't agree more.  At 46, she looks better than some 20-somethings.  She says being curvy improves her facial looks, and she's happiest when she eats. "There is too much pressure to look like a little boy in fashion. My body type is not good for fashion, but I'm happy because I eat."  I totally agree with her on this one. Sometimes I look in the mirror and I'd like to look like I did in my fitness days, but then I think back to how miserable I was.  I looked fantastic in clothes and bathing suits, but I couldn't eat cakes, cookies, buffalo wings, pizza...not even a granola bar.  I really didn't go out with my friends because I felt like a stick in the mud.  Anyone who knows me knows that I love Margaritas.  Now that I'm not modeling or competing I can have whatever I want.  I still workout and eat right about 50% of the time, but I'm happy.  Ladies, there's too much pressure to look good, and if dieting makes you happy then continue on, but I would bet to say that it doesn't.  Love the skin you're in and you'll be happier for it.  Thanks to the Salma Hayek's of the world!!!

~Favorite Skinny Breakfast Combo~

My favorite breakfast combo for the last 3 years has been, Egg whites and oatmeal.  The best way to maintain a healthy weight is by eating right, but the first meal of the day is the most crucial.  It gives you the fuel you need to start your day, and with the right amount of protein and carbs, you won't be craving sweets or crashing mid-day.  I start out by scrambling 3/4c of egg whites. I will add spinach, peppers or mushrooms from time to time, but usually will just top it with green chile or ketchup (low sugar). It gives it flavor.  Then I prepare my oatmeal.  I only use old-fashioned oats, these are the best for you.  I add 1 packet of truvia, my sweetener of choice; 1 tbsp flax seeds; and a few dashes of cinnamon.  Last but not least I add 1/4 c of blueberries to my oatmeal.  Blueberries are the healthiest option for fruit in the morning, and a great anti-oxidant, if you don't have blueberries any kind of berry will work or an apple will suffice.  Enjoy! Let me know what your breakfast of choice is...

Gel Nails at Home!

So recently I purchased the Luminess Air Elite Gel Manicure Starter Kits, $69, from Neiman Marcus, and I love it!  It's an at home gel polish system that's very easy to do.  The kit includes a portable LED setting lamp, cleanser, remover, gel base, top coat and two polish colors.  I used it last night and it took me about 15-20 min from start to finish, and I was pleasantly surprised by how very little difference I saw between getting them done at a salon and doing them myself.  The only difference was,  I missed the hand massage, and I didn't remove my cuticles, because me and sharp objects don't mix.  The quality of the polish is excellent, the process was short, and my nails look fabulous!
When you want to remove the polish, just use the remover provided and the polish soaks off easily without damaging your nails. Overall I loved this delivered just like it said it would.  It cost me about what I normally pay for a mani/pedi, and you can also add their top coat to a normal non-gel polish for a harder base.
Pros: It saves time, energy, gas, money, looks great!  Cons: I'm worried about putting my nails in a tanning bed aka LED lamp. Very little research has been done on the link between skin cancer and LED lamps.  If your worried about it too, I say don't do it, or don't over expose yourself.

GNC On the Go Blender

I know I just did a post on protein, but I thought it would be appropriate to brag about a new blender I'm using for my protein drinks.  Let me just give you a little background info on me.  I'm not very kitchen savvy, and by that I mean I don't like the clean up of preparing meals.  Which brings me to blenders.  I have a very high-tech blender, which I don't use often and I have a magic bullet, which I use everyday.  They both do exactly what I want them to do, except the magic bullet is smaller, and more convenient..ehem. in other words, virtually no clean up. However, I stumbled across a blender my husband bought at GNC a few months ago that he hadn't used and I thought I'd give it a try.  It's the GNC On the Go Blender, $39 ($10 cheaper than the Magic Bullet, but he bought it for $20 on SALE at the BX (military base store).

I love this blender!  It's a 6-piece set that includes 2-BPA free 28 oz. cups, 2-leak proof to-go lids, the blade and the base.  The Magic Bullet, comes with a few cups, but nothing that fits into a cup holder and no lids, so you can't transport.  When I'm making a banana smoothie, the amount builds significantly, so the "magic cups" do not magically hold the full amount.  The GNC cup does.  The GNC blender also has an off, lo, hi and pulse switch.  For those of you who have tried a magic bullet know, you just twist it on the base and it blends.  Not so convenient if you're trying to crush ice, because a normal blend is just going to give you ice crystals at the bottom of your smoothie.  Winner: GNC On the Go Blender  Let me know if you've tried either blender, and if you like them!

Perfect Protein Shake for Coffee Lovers!

I'm addicted to the new way I make protein shakes...not sure whether it's the taste or the caffeine...hmmm?
It's a chocolate concoction of chocolate, banana and coffee...If you love this combo, then keep reading.

What you'll need:

*Protein powder, I like Met-Rx meal replacement packets--they're more filling. (1/2 packet)
*1/2 banana
*6oz. cold water
*Nescafe instant coffee individual packets.

Add all ingredients into blender and blend until mixed and mashed well. Drink. Enjoy!

I love this shake if I'm in a hurry in the morning or as a mid-afternoon pick me-up.

**If you try this out, let me know what you think.

Favorite Mascara!

Hey everyone, sorry I haven't gotten to the fashion part of my blog yet, I've been vacationing and organizing everything around me...  What I do have for you today though is a favorite product as of late.

Without further ado, my favorite Mascara of the moment is The Fairydrops Scandal Queen Mascara, $24, Sephora.  It is a water-resistant mascara.  I didn't like water-proof or water-resistant mascaras in the past because to me they're so hard to remove, but this one is fairly easy.  I took this to Disneyworld in June, and being in an amusement park all day long in the heat and humidity, this mascara did not budge.  So I highly recommend this product if you're looking for a long-lasting, smudge proof mascara.
